Lagos Water Corporation, LWC, has Flagged off the 2018 World Water Day with free water test across Lagos State.
The 3-day event began on Monday at the Corporation’s headquarters, Ijora, Lagos to cover eight LWC operational regions.
While briefing the Press and the team from Quality Assurance and Sales & Commercial Departments before the take-off, Head, Quality Assurance, Mrs. Banire Monsurat enjoined the staff to be worthy ambassadors of the corporation, urging them to be polite in answering questions and always be friendly.
The exercise is expected to cover the eight operational regions of LWC, which have been divided into four areas (Lagos Island, Surulere, Ikeja etc.) for easy accessibility.
“You are expected to take samples of water used in the locations covered irrespective of water used, LWC, borehole water, among others.
“The essence is to show the general public the quality of water the corporation is serving the public,” she said, adding that LWC water is clean, safe and good for human consumption.
She further stated that borehole water is contaminated and urged them to migrate/connect to LWC water, which conformed to World Health Organisation’s standard.
This year’s theme: “Nature for Water” explores how nature could be used to overcome the water challenges of the 21st century.
“Environmental damage, together with climate change, is driving the water-related crises we see around the world. Floods, drought and water pollution are all made worse by degraded vegetation, soil, rivers and lakes.
“When we neglect our ecosystems, we make it harder to provide everyone with the water we need to survive and thrive,” she said.
Activities lined up to celebrate the World Water Day are media briefing and the inauguration of Water Ambassadors, while 22nd is the D-day for Road Show across the State with the distribution of fliers and sensitization of the public on water conservation and procedures on how to connect to LWC water.
