Changi backs Travel Retail Awards as interest soars

Singapore Changi Airport joins the Travel Retail Awards as Headline Sponsor.

Support for the Travel Retail Awards today shifts into another gear as Singapore Changi Airport Group (CAG) pledges its allegiance as Headline Sponsor.

CAG joins a growing list of industry heavyweights backing the first-of-a-kind initiative.

Diageo Global Travel, Furla, Mars ITR and Mondelēz World Travel Retail are already confirmed as Platinum Sponsors for a programme that seeks to celebrate excellence in travel retail through the eyes of the much spoken about – but rarely acknowledged – travelling consumer.

Gold sponsors include Bluedog Productions, Cabeau, Hanse Distribution, Travel Blue and Z-Zoom.

SCENE CHANGER

Commenting on the partnership, Lim Peck Hoon, Executive Vice President of Commercial at CAG said: “Changi Airport is delighted to support the first ever consumer-voted Travel Retail Awards.

“Passengers’ needs and aspirations are key drivers of our travel retail strategy and have always guided us in our search for new brands, exclusive launches and the most novel travel retail concepts to enhance the overall Changi experience.

“In this highly competitive travel retail environment, we look forward to the interesting consumer insights that this inaugural award will bring to the scene.”

Adding his comments, Luke Barras-Hill, Acting Managing Editor, TRBusiness added: “To receive the backing of an airport ranked best in the world by Skytrax for five consecutive years and as one of Asia’s leading growth hubs with 62.2m pax handled in 2017 is a ringing endorsement of the momentum we are creating for the inimitable Travel Retail Awards.

Singapore Changi Airport’s commitment also feeds into TRBusiness’ wider strategy to deliver a truly ground-breaking initiative that not only seeks to validate travellers’ duty free and travel retail purchases, but actively recognises the achievements of airports and their retailer partners worldwide.

“We look forward to developing the conversation with Changi Airport and our other key sponsors to translate B2B achievements into B2C realities.”

CRUCIAL FEEDBACK

The addition of CAG to the Travel Retail Awards’ sponsor list follows an intense first round of judging undertaken by a select band of bloggers and vloggers (video bloggers) last month.

These key influencers were asked via a series of questions to scrutinise and share their likes and dislikes when it comes to airport shopping, favourable purchases, and good and bad experiences [click here to see how they got on].

Partner m1nd-set is currently undertaking detailed research among 5,000 participants uniquely sourced from its unique database of international travellers (weighted at 70% of the total score).

M1nd-set will be discovering popular products, airport shopping locations, mobile applications, social media offerings and much more.

This accounts for the second phase of the judging sequence, with finalists due to be announced later this month.

The winners will be revealed at the Travel Retail Awards, which takes place on Monday 7 May at Singapore’s Conrad Hotel during the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference.

Finalists and winners will receive ‘Voted by Shoppers’ logos to promote their respective successes.

Travellers will then be able to identify the achievements at airports and on travel retail products all over the world.

The logo will become synonymous with real consumer appeal as voted for by the people they trust: their fellow travellers.
