Gossip: Jan 13th 10pm Chelsea Roundup

Being a matchday the action on the pitch outweighs the tittle-tattle off it. This afternoon’s performance against Leicester once again outlined the areas of the pitch that need strengthening. Let`s hope Roman and Marina were taking notes. I was and it was painful.

There is literally nothing to report on the transfer rumour front today. So we`re going to put ourselves in Marina Granovskaia`s shoes and take up the mantle of Chelsea`s head transfer honcho.

First off, if we are Marina, who it appears to like a bargain, at least in footballer terms, we`re not sure we`d find her in Primark, then Alexis Sanchez is a no-brainer. But, how do you sell the move to him. As he`s out of contract in the summer, his next destination is very much in his own hands.

Arsene Wenger and Arsenal themselves can have no influence where he plies his trade. So it`s all about what we (as Marina) are prepared to offer the player and his agent.

Should Sanchez want the move now Arsenal will have to be paid a fee, if Sanchez waits until he`s out of contract there will be no fee payable. Chelsea need Sanchez right now though, Antonio Conte likes the player so give the man and his agent what they want.

Next we`d look to strengthen the left side of Chelsea`s midfield. If Marina has any sense she`ll have closed her book on Alex Sandro, if he wanted to join Chelsea he`s had ample opportunity to express a desire to do so, it`s time to move on.

Alex Telles has long been touted a possible player Chelsea would like to get hold of. In fact last summer, according to Goal.com, his agent said that one day he would play for Chelsea. It was believed he had a release clause of £40m in his contract. Chelsea could do with calling that right now.

Another striker Chelsea previously targeted is Torino`s Andrea Belotti. Having recently signed a contract extension that is set to keep him at the club until 2021, Belotti could still move. All that extension does is ensure his club get top dollar for him when he does leave. That`s likely to be the summer, with Atletico Madrid also keen on sealing a deal should Antoine Griezmann decide to leave the Wanda Metropolitano. The fee that Torino would want for the Italian is likely to be a very long way off Chelsea would be willing to pay.

One piece of gossip that is tucked away in tabloid land is the possibility of PSG trying to sign N`golo Kante in the next transfer window. According to The Sun the French giants believe Kante to be an ideal replacement for Thiago Motta. Of course, regardless of whoever is in charge at Chelsea next season, that`s unlikely to happen.

Well apart from making stuff up, that`s it, unless you can find anything to add. There`s not even that much to smile about today, but there is a clip of Ross Barkley in training, at least it`s something to look forward to.

Doesn`t seem so long ago we were pinning our hopes on Alvaro Morata, who we do believe will be a success, but at this moment Chelsea football club need a little more. Back tomorrow at 10pm with a bit more gossip to peddle.
