There is a particular indigenous rap song, which has funny lyrics. It talks about things that can never happen. One of the things mentioned in the lyrics is that Jide Kosoko can never act in Spartacus (a popular American movie in the 90s). I won’t blame the musician for his shallow thinking, our movie industry was so poor at the time, and it was inconceivable that a Nigerian actor will act in such a sophisticated movie like Spartacus.
Well, times have changed and our movies are becoming better. We are being featured in Film Festivals across the world and our industry is one of the biggest in the world.
Now, we have one of our own, Funke Akindele, breaking the barrier between Nollywood and Hollywood. She won’t be the first to act in an American movie, but the first in a big budget American movie. She has been confirmed to play a role in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ – an upcoming American superhero film based on Marvel Comics superhero team, ‘The Avengers’.
It is already posted on the movie’s website, and it is a big deal. I can’t wait to see it.
