INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – After some downright shocking and sad stories lately about abuse and neglect of animals in recent bitter-cold weather, it’s nice to see a happier story.
A recent post by a Facebook group named Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside shows pictures of an “alley outreach day” where they worked with Indianapolis Animal Care Services to follow up on calls about dogs reported to have been out in extreme cold.
In one check, they found that the dog was inside a warm home, but the homeowner said a puppy someone had placed in a box minutes earlier in her backyard was now missing.
A search ensued and the tiny puppy was found in a wooded area nearby. The 3 month old terrier mix got some food and quickly fell asleep in his new, warm surroundings.
They named him Howie.
The post said Howie will eventually be a highly-sought after candidate for adoption at IACS unless the owner claims him.
