Mourinho on Sanchez
17:45: Jose Mourinho has just said this about Manchester United’s interest in Alexis Sanchez
“If somebody speaks of one of my players to tell we are interested or we are not interested, I wouldn’t be very, very happy,” he said.
“Sanchez is an Arsenal player, I don’t know but probably this weekend he is going to defend Arsenal colours so I don’t think it’s correct to say things about Alexis Sanchez.
“At the general level what I can say is myself and the Manchester United board, the owners, we don’t believe a lot in the January market, we don’t believe in signing a player just to sign a player, just to do something, we don’t believe in that.
“What we believe really is there are some players in football world if you have the chance to sign them in January, in March or in July, you have to try and that’s it.
“But in relation to Alexis Sanchez I don’t say a word, the only word I can say is he is a phenomenal player, apart from that an Arsenal player and I feel I shouldn’t say much more than this.”

Arthur transfer latest

The Daily Mail claim United and Chelsea have been scouting the 21-year-old, who played in Gremio’s Club World Cup final defeat to Real Madrid.
Barca cannot play Arthur, as they are only allowed three non-EU players in their squad.
And Gremio are therefore hoping United or Chelsea come in with a bid between £30m and £35m so they can cash in on their prized asset.

Sanchez transfer ‘unbelievable’
15.00: Manchester United signing Alexis Sanchez would be unbelievable, says Danny Higginbotham.
“I think a player like Alexis Sanchez would be beneficial for most teams,” he told Sky Sports.
“I think whoever does get him will find themselves with a stronger squad, so from that point of view it would be an unbelievable signing for Manchester United if they were to get him.
“Especially if it was at the expense of Manchester City with them two being huge rivals.”
De Gea contract talks
14.55: Manchester United are willing to offer David de Gea a huge new contract in a bid to fend off interest from Real Madrid.According to The Sun, the Red Devils are now set to open talks over making him the club’s highest paid player.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been backed to join Arsenal by Tim Sherwood
Sanchez transfer blow
07.40: Manchester United have launched a bid for Alexis Sanchez but Express Sport understands it is too late to draw him away from Manchester City.
The Red Devils made a £25m bid for the Chile international, outdoing their rivals’ offer by around £5m.
However, despite the improved bid it is understood Sanchez will not turn his back on Pep Guardiola.
Sanchez is said to desperately want to work with the former Barcelona boss and Arsenal are now resigned to losing him this month.
Van Gaal offer
07.30: Manchester United were preparing to give Louis van Gaal a new contract before the appointment of Jose Mourinho, according to reports.
The Manchester Evening News claim the Dutchman was set for a new deal six months before he was axed by the club in May 2016.
However, things took a nosedive that season which prompted the Red Devils to reconsider, eventually opting to bring in Mourinho.
Van Gaal has previously claimed he felt the way United ousted him was “horrible and treacherous”.
Mkhitaryan to Arsenal
07.15: Henrikh Mkhitaryan would be a perfect fit for Arsenal, according to former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood.
The Armenia international has been overlooked by Jose Mourinho this term and Sherwood thinks Arsene Wenger could be the man to get him back to his best.
“Looking at what he did at Shakhtar Donetsk and Dortmund, we’re looking at a world-class player,” he told Sky Sports’ Debate.
“Given that injection of confidence, maybe if Arsene Wenger puts his arm round him and builds a team around him, I think he’s that good.”
