Transfer gossip: Aston Villa eyeing up Liverpool playmaker; former Derby County man signs new contract

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic in the January transfer window.

According to the Liverpool Echo , both Villa and Premier League side Brighton would like to sign the 21-year-old on loan in the New Year.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is yet to decide on the future of Grujic but is keen to see the midfielder play regular football in England to boost his development.

The report also says that Turkish club Galatasaray are said to be interested in signing the Serbian but Liverpool believe the player would benefit from joining an English club.

Grujic joined Liverpool in 2016 from Red Star Belgrade and has only managed to make 14 appearances for the club, only three of those as a starter and is yet to score a competitive goal.

Former Derby County midfielder Shaun Barker has signed a new contract with current club Burton Albion.

The 35-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Brewers this season due to injury, but has put pen to paper on a new deal which runs until the end of the season.

Barker was sidelined through injury for more than four years and left the Rams on a free transfer to join Burton in August 2016, after making 105 appearances in a seven-year spell.

The former Ram said after signing his new deal: “I’m delighted. I haven’t been involved as much as I was last year, but I’ve been training more and I’ve been more involved with the club.”
