Govt schools improving education quality in Bajura

Government schools in the far-flung areas of Bajura have started giving more focus on quality education in recent years.

Several governmental and non-governmental organisations contributed to attract more students in government schools by launching various programmes. With increasing number of students in government schools, school managements also focused on quality education of late. According to school supervisor Dharma Raj Jaishi, as many as 96 public schools, which are running preparatory teaching learning activities, have been able to attract a significant number of students in the last four years. “As the students can easily adjust and enjoy learning using various tools, there has been a significant increment in students’ number,” said Jaishi.

Scores of students joined government schools after the quality education was given high priority. “With the  opening of early childhood development centre at Ratna Secondary School at Kailashmandu, five students enrolled in Grade I at the school leaving private schools this session alone,” said teacher Jog Meyar Budha.

“Parents, who used to enrol their children in private boarding schools ignoring government schools earlier, have also started enrolling their kids in government schools of late,” said Uma Katuwal, a teacher at Mahendra Primary School in Martadi.

With the increase in the number of students, drop out and absenteeism rates have also significantly reduced, as per District Education Office Bajura resource person Gambhir Singh Gurung. “We can feel the difference while teaching kids with love and care instead of terrifying and punishing them,” said Gurung.

District Education Office, Bajura, initiated the programme in coordination with the Nepal Government, World Education and Seto Gurans Early Childhood Development Centre in order to attract students towards government schools.

“Classes are managed in an interesting manner understanding child psychology. Classrooms are made colourful and equipped with all necessary material that help the children learn with fun,” said Gurung.
